Why I Love It
Storage aboard is always a bit of a puzzle. You can have a perfectly reasonable-sized cupboard and still find yourself pulling out three things to get to the one thing you actually need. Pot lids are particularly guilty of this. They don’t stack properly, the handles get in the way, and somehow the lid you want is always at the back.
I put these pot lid organizers on the inside of my galley cupboard door, and they solved two problems at once: the lids became much easier to reach, and suddenly I could stack my pots properly.
Why I Bought It
I wasn’t really looking for a better way to organize pot lids. I was looking for more space. My galley cupboards aren’t enormous, and having the lids stored with the pots meant I could never really take advantage of nesting the cookware. Moving the lids onto the cupboard door gave each one its own dedicated spot and freed up the shelf for the things that actually need to sit on it.
What surprised me most was just how much usable space such a small change created. There are very few opportunities aboard to magically make a cupboard bigger, but this comes remarkably close.
Why It Works on a Boat
The best boat-storage ideas don’t necessarily add more storage; they find space you weren’t using. The inside of a cupboard door is a perfect example. It’s already there, it doesn’t take anything away from the galley, and with a slim organizer attached, it becomes useful real estate. Mine holds the lids close enough to the door that the cupboard still closes easily. It also means the lids aren’t rattling around with the pots or falling over every time I reach into the cupboard. I simply open the door, and the lid I need is right there.
How I Actually Use It
I keep mine on the back of the cupboard door where I store my pots. Once I moved the lids onto the door, the pots could finally nest together properly on the shelf.
That sounds like an absurdly small accomplishment until you’ve tried to organize cookware aboard a boat. Suddenly there is room beside the pots for something else, I don’t have to rearrange half the cupboard to make dinner, and every lid has a home.
A place for everything and everything in its place. This is exactly the kind of little organizer that makes that possible aboard.
What You Should Know
My pot lids are fairly standard sizes and the organizers I bought work very well for them. But I would definitely measure before ordering, particularly if you have oversized lids, unusually shaped handles or very little clearance between the cupboard door and the shelves.
Expandable or adjustable styles are also available for larger lids, so this isn’t necessarily a one-size-fits-all purchase. The important measurement isn’t just whether your lid fits the holder; it’s whether the cupboard can still close comfortably with the lid installed on the door.
Because this is going aboard rather than into a stationary kitchen, I’d also make sure whatever organizer you choose holds the lid securely enough that it won’t jump out when the boat starts moving.
Would I Buy It Again?
Yes. Absolutely. It costs me virtually no usable storage space, makes the lids easier to grab, lets the pots stack properly, and turns the back of a cupboard door into storage I didn’t have before. That’s a pretty good return from something so simple.
And it has certainly earned its space aboard—by creating more of it.
The Details
- Creates extra storage: Uses otherwise wasted space on the inside of a galley cupboard door.
- Makes pots easier to stack: Moving the lids off the shelf lets cookware nest properly and keeps lids within easy reach.
- Measure before ordering: Check both your lid dimensions and the clearance behind the cupboard door so everything still closes properly.
Turn wasted cabinet-door space into something brilliantly useful, designed to keep lids tidy, visible, and easy to grab when dinner is calling. It creates instant order in crowded galleys, kitchens, or RV cupboards, because calm spaces start with smart systems.
